A Shocking Statistic about Finanical Advisor Relationships with Women Clients

retirement account joys

According to an Investment News article about women and money, a “study by The Boston Consulting Group found that women were more dissatisfied with the financial services industry than any other that affected their daily lives. Women were reported as being treated with disrespect and condescension, and given poor advice specifically because of their gender.” Wow! While this revelation does hint of “victimhood” a tiny bit, that’s still a pretty big statement about the relationship women have with their financial advisors! Why do I suggest victimhood? I do so because this situation … [Read more...]

5 Life Changing Tips

huevos rancheros

One of the major decisions I have made over the past few years has been to change my diet so that I feel good. I made a conscious decision to do this after it resisting it for a long time. After being a life- long junkie who could not possibly pass up clipping a great recipe, I changed my focus. This change required changing my perspective; I realized that my body knows what it wants and needs, it tells me, and I want to honor that for my overall good. After making a committed decision, I just have to listen and act accordingly. This same shift paradigm works in any area of our lives, … [Read more...]

This Is One Money Tool You Have to Use!

The S&P is up 7% thus far for the year as I type this post for Financial Woman. If it were December, that return may seem pretty boring, but in early February, that number sounds rather remarkable. However, shorter term monthly returns are not the point that I want to make in this article, especially since that number will probably change by the time you read this. Instead, I want to focus on the more important notion of what the S&P being up 7% really means; this is a super important concept for anyone wishing to grow their money and reach their financial goals. The S&P, one of … [Read more...]

What’s More Important Than a Pair of Jeans and Black Boots?

MP900443138[1]

Last week I had a great excuse for hiding out in bed with a huge stack of my favorite financial publications for an entire day; I had a nasty head cold.  I fully realize that I am a bit of a nerdy introvert, and this is not what thrills most people about a “sick” day, but I ended the day feeling refreshed and wiser, albeit a bit stuffier.  The fact that I get to share with you the best bits of information I read is what excites me about writing the financial woman blog! Spending this time also allowed me to focus on improving my own financial plan without the distractions of running … [Read more...]

5 Things I Learned from Writing “Earn Grow Give”

MP900341542[1]

Last week I was honored to have a book signing for Earn Grow Give, my personal finance book for women, in my home town of Tupelo, Mississippi, at the downtown landmark retailer, Reed’s Department Store. I grew up with Catherine Reed, who works in the gift and book department, so, personally, it felt more like a homecoming than a business venture for me. I was truly touched by the support of each person who attended the signing, especially since writing and publishing a book felt like a big and scary thing in my life. Did you know that you have a book in you? Everyone does, I believe, … [Read more...]

On a Scale of 1 to 5….

Last week I was excited to meet with a successful Austin venture capitalist to talk about Financial Woman. Our meeting prompted me to go back to my office and list everything I was doing in my business, and rate each effort on a scale of 1 to 5 regarding effectiveness of better reaching women seeking to improve their financial health through better money solutions and strategies. I love analyzing things, so much so, that I often spend so much time analyzing that my business coach gets onto me.  But in the end, analysis is what leads us to make better decisions that lead to the highest ROI, … [Read more...]

Do You Need to Surrender?

MP900443488[1]

After years of resisting tech literacy, I surrendered. It’s not that I would even remotely consider myself tech savvy, but I have noticed that since I made a mind shift about technology, I have gotten better at it. Little things that I have wondered about for years are now becoming clear to me without much effort. It’s wonderful and amazing! You know where I am going with this, right? Financial literacy!! Are you resisting demonstrating leadership and being proactive with your money? If so, stop! Knowledge and action take you to financial freedom, whether right now that means meeting … [Read more...]

5 Days Is All It Took….

Last week I had a golf breakthrough! When I’m at my mom’s, it’s easy to play a few holes of golf each day, whereas in Austin, I usually slip in a game a week. Improvement is slow, trust me! I have noticed that for the past 2 summers, this daily focus has really improved my results, and this year was no different; I excitedly reported to my mom that I felt like I had experienced a “golf breakthrough”. Then I thought about how this principle can be applied to any area of our lives. It’s the “what you focus on grows” theory. This is the updated and trendier version of “practice … [Read more...]
