Recently, I wrote an article with 6 tips for finding good investment advice. From the feedback I received, this is an area that holds a lot of interest. In today’s post, I want to expand on avoiding paralysis by analysis, which is the first money expert tip. Here are 3 tips for avoiding analysis paralysis, which comes from having too much information, possibly even in the wrong areas altogether. 1. Figure out where you need to focus first. If you need to increase your cash flow so you can start the initial funding of a savings plan, then there is no need to spend a lot of time … [Read more...]
What Can We Learn from Bridget Jones?
![MP900433178[1] MP900433178[1]](http://www.financialwoman.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/MP9004331781-150x150.jpg)
Movies can teach us a lot about life and money. I have found that I now like to watch mostly uplifting movies, and tend to avoid movies that bring me down, such as violent or depressing ones. Last night, I watched Bridget Jones Diary as part of my annual holiday movie event. It’s one of my very favorites! I get so frustrated with Bridget; she’s so pretty, naturally sexy, and smart, yet she keeps repeating the same mistakes. She so longs to be healthy and confident, yet she continually sabotages herself in every area that she longs to improve: her career, her weight, her unhealthy habits … [Read more...]
All Financial Women Know their Cash Flow…and their Brilliance
Recently on Financial Woman Radio, I interviewed Patti DeNucci. Patti is a seasoned entrepreneur, having founded her own networking company in Austin. Patti offered some inspiring insights for any woman that is thinking of creating her own business. If you missed the show, you can listen here or download it to your mp3 player, which for me, is my cell phone. Part of being a Financial Woman is absolutely knowing your monthly cash flow, and making sure that more is coming in than going out. As we step through this in my 7 Steps to Deliberate Investing course, implementing positive cash flow can … [Read more...]
Does the Word Investor Feel Scary?
Do you think of yourself as an investor? In considering names for an investing course I have been writing recently, it occurred to me that most women don’t think of themselves as investors based on what they've been telling me when I have money conversations with them. I think to feel comfortable calling yourself an investor you have to actually be involved with investing with your money, and even then, it may feel awkward. Somehow I think the word investor seems big and intimidating for a lot of people, especially for women. It seems like there is almost shame around it. I understand; It … [Read more...]
What is your Passion?
EWomen Network hosted their annual conference in Dallas this past weekend. I attended for the first time, and it was fantastic on so many levels. In addition to promoting and helping women entrepreneurs, Sandra Yancey has created a foundation that contributes significant amounts to charities. What an amazing woman and organization! One of the processes in my 7 Steps to Deliberate Investing Course takes you through examining your current financial situation to make sure you are on track to reach your long term wealth goals. The idea is to do this while you still have time to get to where you … [Read more...]
Take Small Steps to Financial Goals
Financial goals are like most other life goals; they are more easily reached by breaking them into bite sized steps. A good example that is in my life right now is the career and college planning that my sons are doing. I ask (beg?) my teen sons to think about their ultimate goal beyond high school and college. In my family, this may look something like working as a commercial designer or writing in the media industry while being able to support a nice lifestyle. I ask the boys to go backwards to see how that accomplishment will look broadly on a monthly, weekly and then daily basis to reach … [Read more...]
A Gift from Mother Nature
Don’t you love it when the weather forecast says that it is going to be yucky and it turns out pretty? It is like a little unexpected present from Mother Nature herself! That is exactly what happened to me today in Austin. (Source: Jeff Clow) I was finishing up my investing course that I have been creating for several months this morning. Ideas popped into my head so I got up early to get started after checking the day's weather forecast . I thought to myself “Perfect! It will be stormy all day! I can finish up my course without the thought of golf popping into my mind.” When the sun … [Read more...]
