Are Your Money Habits Ever Shocking?

Are Your Money Habits Shocking?

Almost everyone has at least a few money habits that interfere with reaching financial goals. Interestingly, if we are truly honest with ourselves, we probably know exactly what those habits are. Once recognized, the next step is to change those undesirable habits so we can reach our financial goals and create the life we want. Many money habits are the simply result of childhood influences. Without even realizing it, we can be operating entirely from someone else’s money beliefs. Beliefs often stem from long ago relatives since they are passed down from one generation to the next, … [Read more...]

What Can We Learn from Bridget Jones?

MP900433178[1]

Movies can teach us a lot about life and money. I have found that I now like to watch mostly uplifting movies, and tend to avoid movies that bring me down, such as violent or depressing ones. Last night, I watched Bridget Jones Diary as part of my annual holiday movie event. It’s one of my very favorites! I get so frustrated with Bridget; she’s so pretty, naturally sexy, and smart, yet she keeps repeating the same mistakes. She so longs to be healthy and confident, yet she continually sabotages herself in every area that she longs to improve: her career, her weight, her unhealthy habits … [Read more...]

5 Days Is All It Took….

Last week I had a golf breakthrough! When I’m at my mom’s, it’s easy to play a few holes of golf each day, whereas in Austin, I usually slip in a game a week. Improvement is slow, trust me! I have noticed that for the past 2 summers, this daily focus has really improved my results, and this year was no different; I excitedly reported to my mom that I felt like I had experienced a “golf breakthrough”. Then I thought about how this principle can be applied to any area of our lives. It’s the “what you focus on grows” theory. This is the updated and trendier version of “practice … [Read more...]

Tips for Real Financial Peace

The first step to becoming a financial woman is to decide why your money matters to you. One of the steps in this process is to look at every aspect of the life you have created up to now, and then define who you want to be: your style, your life, your dreams, and your goals; define what matters to you.   Examine your entire lifestyle:  the car, the clothes, the jewelry, the boat, the career, the hobbies, the home and especially the job. Revisit it all because maybe the mindset that made those choices years ago is no longer valid, and maybe your precious time and money are supporting … [Read more...]

What Is Your Money Mindset?

Where is your money mindset? You’ll want to make sure you have the right mindset to help create the financial life you want. Most people have childhood beliefs that affect their money habits and the way they handle the responsibilities involved with their money. These beliefs can be so deep in your subconscious mind that you have no awareness of them, but they can sabotage your efforts to be the person you want to be regarding your money. I see people allow old and invalid money beliefs to control their actions in a way that keeps them stuck in negative habits around their money. I truly … [Read more...]

Healthy, Wealthy and Wise!

Don’t you just love sleep? Financial women are healthy, wealthy and wise! Good health definitely requires a good night’s sleep, as you no doubt already know. There are those times when we just can’t get enough sleep, due to kids or work schedules, but I am now at the stage when that is usually just no longer a valid excuse (barring teens still stomping around late!) Last night, I tossed and turned before finally dozing off. I completely brought this problem on myself by taking a late afternoon nap (it was Sunday, I reasoned!), and then having a cup of my favorite green tea after … [Read more...]

When Is Less More?

Less can be more whether it’s about money habits or consumption habits. A few years back, I gave up coffee for tea. This habit gradually turned into only green tea drinking.  I’ll share with you that the tea is meant to steep very briefly, or else it becomes bitter, for those readers who are not green tea drinkers. Recently, while on a visit to the incredible and wonderful Herb Bar in Austin, I decided to indulge in a new loose leaf green tea. I usually just drink Whole Food Market’s plain organic tea because it’s quick, and easy, so this was a tiny bit of indulgence for me. As I sat … [Read more...]

Do You Have Financial Harmony?

What a perfect weekend! I hope your weekend was as wonderful as mine; it included kayaking on beautiful Ladybird Lake near downtown Austin followed by dinner on the patio at Whole Foods Market with friends, editing yet another “final” draft of my financial book for women while spending a gorgeous day on my patio, golf, hiking, spiritual time and a little time focusing on my finances. I even found some quiet time to explore my own personal money reasons in my Financial Woman Alliance member wealth journal; updating my money reasons always helps me get and stay on track with my financial … [Read more...]
