What Can We Learn from Bridget Jones?

MP900433178[1]

Movies can teach us a lot about life and money. I have found that I now like to watch mostly uplifting movies, and tend to avoid movies that bring me down, such as violent or depressing ones. Last night, I watched Bridget Jones Diary as part of my annual holiday movie event. It’s one of my very favorites! I get so frustrated with Bridget; she’s so pretty, naturally sexy, and smart, yet she keeps repeating the same mistakes. She so longs to be healthy and confident, yet she continually sabotages herself in every area that she longs to improve: her career, her weight, her unhealthy habits … [Read more...]

7 Ways to Get Enlightenment

Today I finally sent my personal finance book for women to the publisher! Yes, I have said that before, but, of course, I just had to change it since I first sent it; I got the idea to change all of the quotes to ones in which I have personally connected with the source through a speech, a course or a book. I LOVE quotes, and it was important to me to share this. After this three year project, you can bet that I felt a sigh of relief immediately after uploading the LAST version of both the book and the cover. (I can’t wait to hear what you think of the cover design!) I had the profound … [Read more...]

Are you Platinum and Diamonds or Silver and Turquoise?

Personal finance all begins with your very own money reasons. This has become more evident as I have worked with women at Financial Woman. Before we talk about investing basics, such as stocks, net worth or increasing income, we need to first look at why money matters. These reasons create the rich life you want; they call you to pay attention to your money so you can accomplish what matters to you. I like to call this your money reasons. Today I want to reflect on personal style, since clothes, jewelry and shoes are common areas where women spend in ways that don’t support the life they … [Read more...]

Does the Word Wealth Feel Creepy?

Last week I hosted a free call, Financial Empowerment Now. On the call, I gave seven tips for increasing your financial fluency. Often the topic of finance and investing is just too large; it can feel overwhelming, especially with the lingo. I encourage women to take some simple steps to first become more comfortable with the topics of money and investing by starting to use wealth language. One of the seven tips I gave is to simply start using the word wealth. For many of us, this may be an uncomfortable word. Does Your Home Belong in Your Net Worth Number?

One of the steps that every woman should take for financial empowerment is to know how much money she has. The best way to know this is by keeping a simple Own and Owe statement that lists, of course, everything you own and everything you owe. Many financial experts don’t think your home and mortgage should be included in this net worth equation, but I disagree.   A home can be one of your largest investments, and not to include it in your net worth equation discounts your net worth, unless you owe more on your mortgage than the value of your home, in which case it would overstate … [Read more...]
