What image or thought immediately comes to mind when you hear the phrase “personal finances”? Before you have the time to answer “boring”, let me pose another question. What thought comes to mind when you see the word “bliss”? Interestingly, paying attention to your money, a.k.a, personal finances, is what leads to bliss, because it creates a blueprint for you to get what you really want in life! Many women share with me that they will wait until they have accumulated some wealth to start paying attention to their money. Isn’t this putting on your moisturizer before you … [Read more...]

Let’s Keep Things Simple

Recently I wrote a post with 6 tips for getting good investment advice from financial experts and media. For every financial expert opinion, there’s an opposite opinion, commonly within the same business news segment. This can be very confusing, even to someone who is proactive with her personal finances. The first tip I shared is realizing that projected investment returns are based on probability. As an empowered financial woman, you need to be able to measure that probability with some degree of accuracy and satisfaction. Any investment you choose to make, other than cash, is based … [Read more...]

Year end is a time when I feel drawn to create order with my personal finances as well as my life in general. With that in mind, I thought I’d share a video of an interview with Jean Chatzky on MSNBC Today’s Money. In this video, Jean shares the important legal and financial documents that everyone should not only have, but keep in a place that is easily accessible for loved ones when the need arises. The Letter of Instruction is one that is often overlooked; it’s a simple letter that lists anything that someone stepping in to handle both your personal and financial affairs would … [Read more...]

On a Scale of 1 to 5….

Last week I was excited to meet with a successful Austin venture capitalist to talk about Financial Woman. Our meeting prompted me to go back to my office and list everything I was doing in my business, and rate each effort on a scale of 1 to 5 regarding effectiveness of better reaching women seeking to improve their financial health through better money solutions and strategies. I love analyzing things, so much so, that I often spend so much time analyzing that my business coach gets onto me.  But in the end, analysis is what leads us to make better decisions that lead to the highest ROI, … [Read more...]

Try the Gratitude Attitude with Money Matters

This week I am taking my younger son to college far from home with such bittersweet feelings. I will only see him every few months. I am realizing that when the youngest child leaves home, it is a real life change. I do, however, feel wonderful gratitude that: He is able to do college level work We have the college funds so that he can attend He wants to pursue this endeavor What three huge blessings! When I start to feel sadness creep in, I immediately do a mindset shift to gratitude. This is working really well to get me through this otherwise emotionally challenging time. In fact, it … [Read more...]

Don’t You Love That Vacation Clarity?

Have you ever noticed how your mind gets uncluttered while you are on vacation, then on the flight home you can’t write fast enough as new and inspiring ideas pour out of your mind?  Recently, I was on the flight back to Austin after an energizing ski trip in Park City; I spent half an hour mapping out a plan that would create a significant improvement in my financial life. I’m now on the verge of a large empty nest and two sons in college, so it definitely feels like a time of transition in so many ways, including my personal finances. This plan had come to me briefly in passing moments … [Read more...]
